Protests continue in Lakhimpur; will not return without meeting bereaved families, says Priyanka Gandhi

LUCKNOW: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi sought permission to meet the relatives of the farmers killed in Lakhimpur riots. She said that she will not return without meeting the bereaved families.

The police had asked Priyanka Gandhi to return to Lucknow. Priyanka is presently at the PAC Guest House. Hundreds of Congress workers have gathered there. She tweeted that she has been illegally detained for 28 hours. She tweeted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about her detention.


In a related development, a senior official said that the government has taken note of the fact that Priyanka spoke to some news channels on phone while she was in custody.

"We are investigating the matter and will soon take action against the channels and those responsible for arranging the interactions," the official said.
