Son-in-law arrested after man commits suicide unable to bear daughter’s dowry harassment

abdul-hameed

MALAPPURAM: A man committed suicide unable to bear the dowry harassment faced by his daughter. The dead is Moosakutty of Mampad. His son-in-law Abdul Hameed (30) of Urangattiri has been arrested in connection with the incident. The police nabbed him from his relative’s house at Kuni in Areekode.

Hameed’s parents have also been arraigned in the case. Hameed constantly harassed his wife for dowry.

Moosakutty shot a video on his mobile before taking the drastic step. The rubber tapping worker expressed concern in the video that his son-in-law has been harassing his daughter for more gold. He committed suicide on September 23. He was found hanging in a rubber plantation near his house.

Hameed and Hiba got married last year. 18 sovereigns of gold were given at the time of marriage. Moosakutty later gave six more sovereigns when more gold was demanded.

Hameed came to Hiba's house and said that he will take his wife and new born baby home only if ten more sovereigns are given. Moosakutty committed suicide after this fight. Hiba then lodged a complaint with the police.
