Panchayat president manhandles duty doctor, doctors boycott OP

KOLLAM: The doctors at the taluk hospital boycotted the OP after the panchayat president manhandled the duty doctor. The incident happened at Sasthamcotta Taluk Hospital last night. A complaint has been lodged against Sooranad North panchayat president Sreekumar and others. A case has been registered against the panchayat president under the non-bailable section.

Panchayat president Sreekumar rushed to the hospital with the body of a woman from his next ward who had fallen into a well. After the body was kept in the ambulance, the president and others asked the doctor to confirm the death.

The doctor reached late as he was busy putting plaster on another patient. The president and his accomplices hurled abuses at the doctor when he told them about the procedure of taking an ECG if the death has to be confirmed. When tried to capture the footages, they manhandled the doctor.

A case has been registered against the president under non-bailable section following a complaint of the doctor. The government order is that if a duty doctor is attacked, then the accused should be arrested. So Sreekumar and his accomplices will be arrested.

Meantime, the president and his accomplices who lodged a complaint stating that the doctor assaulted them, are being treated at a private hospital. A strike led by KGMOA boycotted the OP. A decision has been taken to continue the strike till the accused are arrested.
