Change in warning of rain again, no heavy rain anywhere today, monsoon from next week

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a change in warning of rain in the state. A new warning from the Meteorological Department stated that there is no possibility of heavy rain in any district today. An orange alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki tomorrow. There was a warning of heavy rains in the state today and tomorrow. Orange alert was declared in eleven districts.

The Central Meteorological Department had warned of heavy rains in the southern states including Kerala for three days from today and heavy rains in the hilly districts due to the impact of east winds. The government had also announced strong preparations for the floods, fearing that heavy rains could cause floods. Water was released in controlled quantities from several dams, including Idukki dam.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Malappuram districts to rescue people from the devastation caused by heavy rains. Army was deployed in Kottayam as per the request of the state government. Army’s helicopters were deployed for rescue operations. The government had also taken steps to deploy fishermen for rescue operations if necessary.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast that monsoon will reach the state by next week and is expected to be strong this time.
