'New dam should be constructed at Mullaperiyar, no cause for concern at present'; will take legal action against those who create panic, says CM

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday said that there was no cause for concern over the Mullaperiyar dam at present. He also said that legal action will be taken against those who create panic over the Mullaperiyar dam through social media.

"Several people were seen spreading the message that the Mullaperiyar dam is in danger. We will take strict legal action against those who are creating panic by spreading such false propaganda," he said.

The CM informed the assembly that the state government is of the view that a new dam should be constructed at Mullaperiyar. "The state is of the view that a new dam should be constructed at Mullaperiyar. There are some differences of opinion with Tamil Nadu in this regard. We are hoping to resolve the issue through discussion," he said.
