Flyover necessary at Enchakkal

enchakkal

Enchaikkal is one of the important junctions in Thiruvananthapuram. I do not know who gave it that name. There is no doubt that he is a visionary. Because vehicles have been moving inch by inch there for a long time. Those who are busy in the morning and evening during the day will avoid traveling at that time unless it is necessary. It is also alleged that the timings of the traffic signal light is not correct. The problem will never end without the flyover there. The plan was to extend the flyover near Ananthapuri to Muttathara-Kallummoodu. However, the Highway Authority withdrew after protests from locals. Every day here is a rush that proves it was the wrong decision. Meanwhile, the road from Inchakkal to Paravankunnu was closed by the National Highways Authority for eight days due to a burst pipe in the bypass. So the traffic was on the service road. It takes 10 to 20 minutes to cross the road, even on holidays
When it rains, the service road at Muttathara is so flooded making it is impossible to drive. The heavy rains of the last few days had also flooded the bypass.

In Thiruvallam, toll vehicles are diverted to the service road. Toll payers therefore cannot use the bypass.

Enchakkal is a junction where vehicles come from all four sides. This includes the road from East Fort to the airport. The authorities have to make sure that the road to the airport is not blocked. But that is not the case here. In the past, the road from West Fort to Valiyathurai was very busy. Over time, government agencies and housing societies flocked to these areas, increasing the traffic. The number of vehicles is likely to increase with each passing year. The National Highway Authority knows all this. They should not have decided not to build the flyover in the name of local opposition. At the outset of any development, some local opposition is natural. Some vested interests may be behind this. Protests often escalate when there is political interference and when the authorities are adequately educating the people. If construction had started here along with the Kazhakoottam flyover, the problem would have been permanently resolved within two months. Fund is also generated by means of tolls levied on road users. Therefore, the construction of the flyover should be started as soon as possible. There should be pressure from the part of the government for this.
