Finally Bineesh Kodiyeri gets bail in money laundering case

BENGALURU: Bineesh Kodiyeri, son of senior CPM leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, has been granted bail in the money laundering case. Bineesh was arrested on October 29 in 2020. The Karnataka High Court granted him bail on certain conditions. Bineesh was not named in the charge sheet filed by the Narcotics Control Bureau. Bineesh's lawyer pointed this in the court. It was argued that the ED case would not stand as the NCB did not name him as the accused. From the beginning Bineesh said that he is being haunted for being the son of Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and the allegation of drug dealings is just a fabricated one.

He was at the Parappana Agrahara Central jail since November 11 in 2020. Bineesh was arrested on charge of money laundering connected to a drugs deal. He is the fourth accused in the case being investigated by the ED. The case began in August 2020 with the arrest of Anoop Mohammad from Kochi, Rijesh Raveendran from Thiruvilvamala and Kannada serial actress Anikha by the Narcotics Control Bureau in a drug case.

The Narcotics Control Bureau when questioned Anoop in detail received hints about some financial transactions and thus the investigation reached to Bineesh. After receiving the evidence, the ED registered a case against Bineesh and summoned him for interrogation. During interrogation Bineesh said that he knew Anoop and had given him a loan to start a hotel in Bengaluru. He was arrested pointing financial dealings in his account. He was arrested dramatically after summoning him for interrogation a second time.

The raid conducted at his house in the capital city had stoked a controversy. The NCB said that they got his debit card from here. His signature was found behind the card. However, his family alleged that the officials kept the card in his house. Though he moved the court for bail many times, it was refused.
