THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP state president K Surendran said that the Supreme Court's decision not to stay the High Court verdict quashing the 80:20 ratio in minority scholarships was a major setback for the state government. Lashing out at the government, Surendran said that everyone was convinced that the secular stance of the government was hollow when it approached the Supreme Court against the High Court verdict. He also said that the government, which was biased towards one section by succumbing to the pressure of religious fundamentalists, should rectify its mistakes.

"The government failed to treat the two minorities equally. The government, which showed haste to implement the Sabarimala women's entry verdict, did not show any haste in this case. Why was this so? Minority rights should not be given to one section only. The court ruled that the rights should be made available to all. The government is obliged to implement it. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan must show the courage to implement the court order. The government and the Left Front should set aside the interest of the vote bank and ensure equal justice for all," Surendran said.
