Nomad girl was assaulted cruelly for picking two extra iron pieces

EDAPPAL: The state human rights commission has taken a suo moto case in connection with the assault of a ten-year-old rag picker girl. They directed Malappuram district police chief to submit the investigation report within three weeks related to the incident. A case was taken based on the news carried by dailies.

Meantime, it has been asserted that the girl was assaulted cruelly for picking two extra iron pieces. The girl belongs to a family from Andhra Pradesh who has been living in Edappal for the past five years. They earned a living selling metal scraps collected from roadsides. The girl was collecting scrap along with her mother from the roadside when she was assaulted by CPM area panel member Raghavan.

The locals had tried to put her in school, but it did not happen. She later helped her family in picking rags. The human rights commission directed district collector to inform the steps taken to prevent such violent incidents towards children.
