ALAPPUZHA: The transmission of Covid in the state is under control, said Health Minister Veena George. Although it is under control, the people should be on high alert, she said.
As per the figures released by the state health department a few days ago, 95 per cent of adults in the state have already received the first dose of the vaccine. 53 per cent have received two shots of the vaccine. She said the health department expects the number of people receiving both doses to reach 80 per cent by coming January.
The ICMR had already approved vaccines for children--Zydus Cadila and Bharat Biotech. The minister said the state government is making preparations to vaccinate children if approved.
The schools in the state opened on November 1 adhering to Covid protocol. By mid-November students of eighth class will come to school. With this, the educational institutions in the state will be fully reopened but schools will function normally only after the vaccination of the children is completed, the minister said.
