Student found hanging at Mannuthy Agricultural Uni hostel, classmates allege ragging, SFI lodges complaint

suicide

THRISSUR: Mahesh (19), Palakkad's Kozhinjampara native and a first year student of Horticulture College in Mannuthy Agricultural University, was found hanging in a hostel. His classmates complained that Mahesh had died of depression due to continuous ragging. Mahesh arrived on campus only a week ago.

According to his parents, Mahesh has no problems at home. Parents do not know the reasons for his suicide. Mahesh was staying at the Pampa Hostel for boys in the campus. This is where Mahesh hanged himself. It is learned that on the day of the death, some former graduates of the university had come here and stayed in the campus till after midnight. It was after this that Mahesh was found dead.

SFI activists here also alleged that even those who graduated ten or twelve years ago return here and rag first-year students. The organization has lodged a complaint with the district police chief. They also say that there is a mystery in Mahesh's death.

However, police sources said that a suicide note was received from the room and it did not mention ragging. Police are investigating whether the cause of death was a love affair.
