Heavy rain: Four-year-old girl, tribal youth killed in rain-related incidents in Thiruvananthapuram, woman goes missing

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As heavy rain continued to lash Thiruvananthapuram, two people, including a 4-year-old girl were killed in separate rain-related incidents on Monday. The deceased have been identified as Kottoor native R Ratheesh (27) and Krishnapriya(4), daughter of Vembayam native Priyanka. Meanwhile, a 56-year-old woman went missing in Poovar after being swept away by a flooded drain. The missing woman has been identified as Kanjampazhanji native Omana, wife of Christudas. On Sunday, four people were killed in rain-related incidents.

Krishnapriya, who was playing in front of the house, was found dead in a well near the house. Sources said that the girl might have accidentally fallen into the well. Ratheesh, a tribal youth, died after he was washed away by flash floods while fishing near the Peppara dam.

Several districts received heavy rainfall on Monday. Most of the dams under KSEB and Irrigation Department were opened. Vehicles, including that of Sabarimala pilgrims, were diverted after traffic was disrupted in Pathanamthitta due to floods. Another landslide occurred on the Thiruvananthapuram-Kanyakumari railway track yesterday. The landslide occurred at Palliyadi near Kuzhithurai.

382 houses destroyed

As many as 382 houses were completely destroyed and 2205 houses were partially destroyed in Kerala due to the heavy rain that has been lashing the state since November 12. As a precautionary measure, camps have been set up at 3071 buildings. 4,23,080 people can be accommodated in these camps.
