THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The distribution of free food kits, which played a key role for Pinarayi Vijayan's second tenure, is being stopped. Food Minister G R Anil informed this. Speaking to a private channel, the minister said the kits were distributed through ration shops considering the stagnation during the Covid period. The kits would not be distributed any more in the event of inflation.
‘The kit will not start again. The kit was given at a time when people did not have jobs. The situation now is there is work. Giving kits in the coming months is not under the consideration or consultation of the government. In Kerala, the LDF Government has taken a well-positioned stand in the public market. Supplyco and Consumerfed supply goods at reasonable prices. Supplyco has not increased prices for thirteen essential items in the last six years. The minister said the government is doing everything possible to prevent inflation from affecting Kerala.
The government had hinted earlier that the distribution of the kit would not continue. This was because the distribution of free kits incurred a huge financial burden for the government. The distribution of kits was very helpful to the people whose income stalled during Covid.
