Bus fares to be hiked, govt agrees to bus owners' demand

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Transport Minister Antony Raju has announced that bus fares will be hiked in the state. The government has agreed with the owners' demand for an increase in bus fares in the wake of rising fuel prices. The minister was speaking after discussions with bus owners' organizations.

The government has not put forward any new proposal in this regard. The minister said the government was considering how to implement the rate hike without overburdening the people. He also said that the government would consult the Justice Ramachandran Commission before implementing the hike. The decisions regarding the hike will be announced following a meeting with the Chief Minister.
