Two infant deaths in Attappady on Friday; four infants die in last four days, health ministry orders enquiry

PALAKKAD: Two infant deaths were reported in Attappady today. One of the deceased has been identified as Asanya, the 10-month-old baby of Ayyappan and Ramya, a couple from Kathirampathi. The baby died while being treated for heart disease. Earlier on Friday, a three-day-old baby of Geethu and Suneesh, a couple from Vittiyoor, died of pneumonia. The baby died at Mannarkkad Taluk Hospital.


Ten babies have died in Attappady this year. Four babies died in the region in the last four days. There are complaints that pregnant women were not getting specialist treatment at Attappady Tribal Specialty Hospital. Health minister Veena George directed the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) to investigate the incident.
