Tamil Nadu release more water from Mullaperiyar Dam, 4,000 cusecs being released

IDUKKI: Tamil Nadu has raised the five shutters of the Mullaperiyar Dam by 60 cm each. 4,000 cubic feet of water per second is being released from 9 p.m. Till 9 pm, 3246 cubic feet of water was released through three shutters. The water was released in large quantity from 7.30 pm onwards. The Idukki District Collector has warned the people along the Periyar coast to be careful as more water is being released from the dam.

When the shutters of the dam were opened at midnight last night, there was a flood situation in many places. With this, there was a huge protest from the locals. The district administration has estimated that the houses are not likely to be flooded as the water level in the river is low now.
