THRISSUR: The hometown of Vipin, who committed suicide after loan not sanctioned for his sister’s marriage, is joining hands to help his family. Many firms have come forward to provide gold and cash for the girl's marriage.
Majlis Park Charitable Trust in Thrissur has offered Rs 2 lakh for the marriage. Kalyan Jewellery has vowed gold of five sovereigns to the bride and Malabar Gold will give two sovereigns.
Meantime, the groom has asserted that they have not asked dowry and will not withdraw from the marriage under any circumstances. He also said the marriage will take place after all the death related functions are over.
Vipin (25) of Thrissur Gandhi Nagar committed suicide Tuesday morning. He had applied for a loan in connection with his sister’s marriage. He took the drastic step after the loan was not sanctioned.
A loan was not granted as the family has only three cents of land. He had applied for a loan in new generation banks also. They had informed him that loan was sanctioned. Following that, he along with his mother and sister went to a jewellery shop to buy gold. After taking the gold, he left the place leaving his mother and sister in the shop, promising to return with the money.
He was later informed that loan could not be sanctioned. Unable to bear this, he committed suicide. Waiting for him at the shop for a long time, they later returned home and when reached home found him hanging. His sister’s marriage was fixed for next Sunday. Vipin, who was working in a super market lost his job during Covid time. His father died five years ago.
