Country on high alert; Omicron tally rises to 41, further restrictions may be imposed

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The country is on Omicron alert. Two more fresh cases were reported in Maharashtra. With this, a total of 41 cases of Omicron have been reported. None of the infected have any serious health issues. The results of more suspected of the variant are likely to be obtained today.

Further restrictions are likely to be imposed as more cases were reported in many places of the country. Covid tests have been tightened in airports and ports.


The health ministry had earlier issued alert to 10 states including Kerala, which have the highest number of Covid cases. A decision has not yet been taken on the booster dose to be given. The ministry of health reiterates that the expert committee is continuing discussions in this regard.

The world's first Omicron death was reported in UK the other day. In addition, the WHO stated that Omicron is more strong than the delta variant. With this, vigilance is being tightened in India as well.
