Court sentences man to 35 years of imprisonment for sexually abusing his nine-year-old daughter

IDUKKI: A 41-year-old man has been sentenced to 35 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 2 lakh for sexually assaulting his nine-year-old daughter in Thodupuzha. The sentence was handed down by the Thodupuzha POCSO court. The incident took place on May 24, 2014.

The father sexually assaulted the nine-year-old while the child's mother and brother were out. The child himself told his mother about the abuse due to physical ailments. then the Women's Helpline was informed. Subsequent examination revealed that the accused had abused his daughter several times before. As a child under the age of 12, he was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000.

He was sentenced to an extra 10 years imprisonment and fined Rs 50,000 for repeating the offense several times. The accused was sentenced to another 15 years in jail and fined Rs 1 lakh as he was the child's guardian. As the convict can do the jail time together, he faces up to 15 years in prison.
