THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Union Minister V Muraleedharan has asked the government to clarify whether the Kerala University had taken a decision not to confer Honorary D.Litt on President Ram Nath Kovind. "The government has no right to interfere in the University's decision to confer D.Litt. If the government has made such an intervention it would be an abuse of power," Muraleedharan said.

"The state government and the Higher Education Minister should clarify whether the University of Kerala has decided not to confer D.Litt on the President," he added.

Earlier, Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala had alleged that the university refused to confer honorary D.Litt on President Ram Nath Kovind following the state government's intervention.
