Left has no ability to be alternative if Congress collapses at Centre, says CPI leader Binoy Viswam

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI leader Binoy Viswam MP said that the Left has no ability to be an alternative if the Congress collapses at the Centre. He was speaking at the PT Thomas memorial function in Kochi.

"In today's Indian politics, we, the Left, are aware of the emptiness that will arise if the Congress collapses in the face of the challenge posed by the BJP-RSS organizations. Therefore, I say in the midst of all the disputes in Kerala - if the Congress collapses, the Left in India today does not have the ability to fill the void left by it. The Sangh Parivar and its fascist ideologies are likely to fill that void. I think the Congress should try not to collapse by remembering Nehru if it wants to avoid that," Binoy Viswam said.

The draft political resolution prepared ahead of the 22nd Party Congress on cooperation with the Congress was widely discussed in the CPM. Pinarayi Vijayan, a politburo member and Kerala Chief Minister, had said that the Congress can't be an alternative to the BJP at the national level and that it could be done by the Left. It is against this background that Binoy Vishwam's statement is gaining attention.
