THRISSUR: Locals stopped an ASI and his gang trying to speed away after hitting a bike passenger in Kannara here. Prashanth, an ASI from Malappuram AR camp, was involved in an accident while driving under the influence of alcohol. The car driven by the ASI collided with the bike riders Lijith and Kavya and went on without stopping.
The locals rushed to the spot and rushed the injured to the hospital. Following the information provided by them, the locals found Prashanth and his gang in the wrecked car about a kilometre away. The vehicle was not able to move forward as its tyre burst and frontside was damaged. Prashanth, who was driving the car, was under the influence of alcohol. His companions were also intoxicated. They were returning from a birthday party in Kannur.
Prashanth, who was earlier an ASI at Vadakkekad police station, went to celebrate his birthday with acquaintances here. When the locals stopped them, they got into a fight. Later, when the police arrived, it was revealed that an ASI had caused the accident. It is learned that the injured were taken for surgery. They have serious injuries, including in the legs.
