KOTTAYAM: Medical education joint director Thomas Mathew on Saturday said that the incident where a newborn baby was abducted from Kottayam Medical College Hospital was a planned one. He also said that it was concluded that there was no security breach.

"CCTV footage of the incident showed that Neethu had planned to abduct the baby. We don't think that Neethu received any help from within the hospital. A report will be handed over to the minister in one week," Thomas Mathew said. Meanwhile, a hospital employee was suspended following the incident.

The hospital employee was suspended as part of preliminary action. The action was taken on the basis of the finding made by the panel led by the RMO that there was a lack of vigilance on the part of the employee. However, the panel found that there was no lapse on the part of the medical college.
