HYDERABAD: The CPM Central Committee has called on the secular forces in the country to unite and fight against the BJP. The issue was discussed at the Central Committee meeting held in Hyderabad for the last three days. The meeting also opined that efforts should be made to unite the secular democratic parties against the BJP in the forthcoming Assembly elections as well.
The party has decided to convene party congress from April 6 to 10. The meeting is for five days. The Central Committee held a three-day meeting in Hyderabad to discuss the political resolution to be presented at the party congress.
The Left alternative must be developed in the country, but a front won't be formed at the national level. There will be electoral alliances depending on the situation in different states. The Central Committee also opined that the secular position of the Congress should be clarified. CC adopted a draft political resolution expressing views raised during the discussion. It will be published in February.
Sitaram Yechury, the party's general secretary, has said the party aims to defeat the BJP in five state elections. "The party will support the Samajwadi Party in UP. Anti-BJP sentiment is strong in the states where elections are to be held", Yechury said.
Yechury also condemned the hate speech against Muslims in Haridwar.
