Murder of SFI activist: SFI announces statewide education strike on Tuesday

IDUKKI: The SFI will go on a statewide education strike tomorrow in protest of the killing of SFI activist Dheeraj. Dheeraj was stabbed during a clash between SFI and KSU activists following the election held at Idukki Painavu Government Engineering College. Dheeraj is a seventh-semester computer science student in the college. He is a native of Palakulangara, Kannur.

Dheeraj was stabbed to death by Vazhathoppu Youth Congress constituency president Nikhil Paili. Police arrested him who went into hiding after the incident. He was caught while traveling in a bus. Dheeraj was stabbed by Nikhil Paili outside the college during the Union elections today. Two people were injured in the attack. Earlier, it was reported that SFI and CPM activists had attacked Nikhil outside the campus. The police make the same point.

Earlier, there were minor clashes on campus in connection with the union election. Today's attack is the result of this. Dheeraj hails from Kannur. The Technical University has asked the college to suspend union elections following the clashes. The principal also announced that the college is closed indefinitely.
