Kerala logs 59 more Omicron cases, strict action will be taken against those hiding Covid clusters

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health Minister Veena George said 59 more people have been confirmed of Omicron in the state. 12 cases were confirmed in Alappuzha, ten in Thrissur, eight in Pathanamthitta, seven in Ernakulam, six each in Kollam and Malappuram, five in Kozhikode, two each in Palakkad and Kasaragod and one in Kannur.

Of these, 42 are from low risk countries and five from high risk countries. Nine contracted Omicron through contact. Three people from Kollam and six from Alappuzha got the disease through contact. Three who came to Thrissur were from other states.

This brings the total number of Omicron cases in the state to 480. 332 from low risk countries and 90 from high risk countries have reached the state. A total of 52 people contracted the disease through contact. Six came from other states.

Meantime, Health Minister Veena George said strict action will be taken against institutions that hide Covid clusters. The health department was not informed about the formation of the Omicron cluster at a private nursing college in Pathanamthitta. The district medical officer has been directed to take action against this institution. All institutions must follow the Covid guidelines. The minister said the health department should be informed if more Covid cases are reported.
