THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The court verdict in the nun rape case against Bishop Franco Mulakkal cannot be accepted at any reason, said Kottayam former district police chief S Harisankar, who led the investigation. He said this is a very unusual court verdict which is unique in India and will file an appeal against it.

Harisankar said the judgments of the higher courts were based on the mental state and statement of the victim in the rape case. The Supreme Court has also directed that the victim's statement can be accepted as evidence. The verdict is shocking to all of us and has also a social perspective.

Harisankar said the investigation team expected a conviction. There was sufficient evidence against the accused and none of the witnesses had turned hostile. All the witnesses in the case were ordinary people. An appeal will be filed against it, he said.
