VIZHINJAM: Woman civil police officer Vijitha’s suspicion turned crucial in tracking the culprits in connection with the murder of 14-year-old girl. Vijitha was working at Kovalam station when the girl was murdered. She was part of the investigation team then and had questioned Rafeeqa, who lived next to the girl’s house.

When Rafeeqa was arrested in the murder case of Shantha Kumari (71) at Mulloor, Vijitha remembered questioning her as part of the girl’s murder. She informed her superiors and they then decided to examine the matter further. In the meanwhile, the house owner’s son heard the accused saying about the girl’s murder. Consequently, the police decided to question the convicts. The fact that both the murders were committed in a similar manner coupled with the presence of the convicts triggered the doubt, said Vijitha.
