Strict restrictions in state from midnight; checking tightened at borders

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Restrictions similar to the lockdown imposed on Sunday will come into effect from midnight in the wake of the transmission of Covid turning severe in the state. A decision was taken on the restrictions at the Covid review meet chaired by the chief minister two days ago.

Only essential services will be allowed tomorrow. Travelers should keep accurate documents and affidavits in hand. Those who need to work tomorrow can travel with an ID card.

Candidates appearing for exams should keep their admit cards in hand. Those reaching after a long distance travel can show their train, bus and air travel documents. Hotels can function with restrictions from 7 am to 9 pm. The police have stepped up checking at the borders following the spread of the disease.

All PSC exams scheduled for January 23 and 30 have been postponed following the restrictions. The exam for the post of receptionist (Category No. 3/2019) in the Department of Medical Education Services scheduled for January 23 will be held on January 27 and the Laboratory Technician Grade 2 examination will be held on January 28 from 2.30 pm to 4.15 pm. The examination for the post of Operator (Category No 211/2020) in the water authority scheduled for January 30 will be held on February 4 from 2.30 pm to 4.15 pm.
