Covid spread continues to remain critical in India; daily cases cross three lakh again

NEW DELHI: Covid-19 spread continues to remain critical in the country. The daily cases have crossed three lakh again. 3.37 lakh cases were reported yesterday. Death numbers are also increasing. More than 10,000 Omicron cases have been reported in the country.

States such as Maharashtra, Kerala and Karnataka have reported more than 40,000 Covid cases yesterday. In Kerala, 45,136 cases were confirmed yesterday.

Kerala has imposed lockdown like restrictions for today, on account of the severe Covid surge in the state. Food and grocery stores are allowed to function only from 9 am to 7 pm. Toddy shops will open but beverage outlets and bars will remain closed. Those who are going for jobs should carry their identity cards while those attending exams should carry their admit cards.

In Uttar Pradesh, due to the swift rise of Covid cases, schools will remain shut till January 31. Tamil Nadu has imposed complete lockdown today. Only essential services are permitted in the state. In the meantime, daily cases in Delhi have come down to 11,000.
