KOCHI: The theatre owners of Kerala has filed a plea in the high court questioning the state’s order prohibiting opening of theatres on Sundays. The plea demanded to cancel the order to close theatres in Thiruvananthapuram.
The plea stated that it is discriminatory to close the theatres while granting concessions for malls and tourist places. It seeks to allow the functioning of theatres with entry to 50 percent of the seats. The theatre owners’ association, Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) has filed the plea in the high court. FEUOK had opposed the decision to tighten restrictions and close theatres in Thiruvananthapuram, yesterday. “More people are going to the bars than to theatres”, said FEUOK president Vijaya Kumar.
Strict restrictions have been imposed in the capital city, which now falls under the C category. Public events have been restricted. Theatres, gyms and swimming pools remain closed. All classes except for 10, 12 and final year college students, will be held online. Tuition classes will not be allowed. Only 20 people will be allowed in weddings and funerals. The rituals in temples will also be conducted online.
