Rs 450 crore for flood disaster; no fund for Kochi Metro

NEW DELHI: The Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday announced central assistance to Kerala's IIT, IIM and NIT as well as for the flood relief. An amount of Rs 450 crore has been sanctioned in the budget for the constriction works in flood relief. Although Rs 1957.05 crore was allotted to the Kochi Metro last year for the 11.5 km line to Kakkanad, no amount was set aside this year.

Amount allocated to Central Institutions in Kerala (Budget allocation for the year 2021-22 in brackets)

  • Cochin Port Trust: Rs 23.88 crores (33.07 crores)
  • Cochin Shipyard: 400 crores (400 crores)
  • Thiruvananthapuram National Center for Earth Science Studies: 13.90 crores (16 crores)
  • Autonomous Institutions of the Central Department of Biotechnology including Rajiv Gandhi Center for Biotechnology, Thiruvananthapuram: 830.82 crores (806.91 crores)
  • Valiyamala Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology 115 crore (112 crores)
  • HMT: 25.21 crore (26.21 crore)
  • 24 Autonomous Institutions of the Central Department of Science and Technology including Sree Chithirathirunal Institute of Medical Sciences: 1,500 crores (1,488 crores)
  • NTPC thermal power plants including Kayamkulam: 22,454 crore (23,736 crore)
  • Indian Institute of Science for Education and Research Institutions (IISER) including Thiruvananthapuram: 1,379.53 crores (946 crores)
  • For IITs including Palakkad: 8,495 crores (7,686.02 crores)
  • Development of IIMs including Kozhikode: 653.92 crores (476 crores)
  • For NITs including Kozhikode: 4,364 crores (3,935 crores)
  • For Fertilizer Manufacturing PSUs including FACT: 0.06 crore (444.63 crores)
  • Rubber Board: 268.76 crores (190 crores)
  • Tea Board: 131.92 crores (375 crores)
  • Coffee Board: 226.21 crores (180 crores)
  • Spices Board: Rs 115.50 crore (Rs 100 crore)
  • Cashew Nut Export Promotion Council: No (5 crores)
  • Kochi Seafood Export Development Authority: 116 crores (110 crores)
  • For institutions like VSSC and LPSC: 10, 534.50 crore (10, 250.16 crores).
