NEW DELHI: The death of Lata Mangeshkar is an irreparable loss for the nation. Every Indian had expressed their grief over the loss of Lata Didi. Though Lata’s mother tongue is Marathi, she has sung over 40,000 songs in over 35 languages.
Although she has sung in so many languages, Lata has written only once in Gujarati. That too to Narendra Modi's mother Heeraben. It was during Modi's second term as Prime Minister.
‘Congratulations to your son and my brother on becoming Prime Minister for the second time in a row. I am writing in Gujarati for the first time, so please forgive me if anything goes wrong,' this was what Lata wrote in the letter. Lata described Modi as her brother and Heeraben as mother.
Lata had invited Narendra Modi to inaugurate a hospital named after her father Deenanath Mangeshkar in 2013. Modi was then the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Modi was touched by her words while delivering the vote of thanks. She had said that she had prayed to God to see Modi as the Prime Minister of India. She repeated the same thing before the 2014 parliamentary elections.
Lata Mangeshkar used to send special gifts to Modi every year during the Rakshabandhan festival. She was not able to send him gifts during the Covid time in 2020.
The queen of melody died at the Breach Candy Hospital Sunday morning at 8.12 am.
Her body was brought to her residence in the afternoon yesterday. She was buried in Sivaji Park with full state honours. Prime Minister Modi reached to pay his last respects to the Nightingale of India. President Ram Nath Kovind offered his condolences.
Amitabh Bachchan, Sachin Tendulkar, Shah Rukh Khan and many others paid their last respects to her. She was admitted to the hospital on January 8 after contracting Covid and pneumonia. She was on ventilator after her condition deteriorated.
