Relief for VS; Court stays verdict directing to pay Rs 10 lakh to Oommen Chandy

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thiruvananthapuram District Court has issued a stay on the verdict in the defamation case filed by Oommen Chandy against VS Achuthanandan. The court has stayed the verdict issued by the sub-court, which directed Achuthanandan to pay Rs 10.10 lakh as compensation to Oommen Chandy.

On January 22, the sub-court had ordered Achuthanandan to pay Rs 10.10 lakhs as compensation to Oommen Chandy for the remarks he made in 2013. Achuthanandan had made the remarks during an interview given to a private channel in 2013. Achuthanandan had alleged that the then CM Oommen Chandy had formed the solar company to do corruption and that he had cheated the people of Kerala. Oommen Chandy later filed a defamation case against Achuthanandan.
