KOCHI: With the exclusion of foreign graduates from appointments in Ernakulam medical college stirring a controversy, officials have come up stating that it was a clerical error. The condition that only Indian graduates will be considered for the appointment was included in the notification inviting applications for appointment.

The interview for the junior resident post was held yesterday. Eligibility was MBBS and Medical Council registration. Temporary appointments will be made on a contract basis.

The parents' organization of medical students who graduated from abroad had come out against the notification.

Medical College principal Dr Kalakeshavan told Kerala Kaumudi that students who studied abroad were not excluded from appointments. "A clerical error occurred while mentioning the requirement that the applicants must be registered with the Medical Council of India. Those with registration will be considered," he said.
