Reservation benefits for forward caste: Report submitted by Commission

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The commission chaired by Justice M R. Hariharan Nair has submitted the report to the government regarding the reservation benefits to economicallly weaker section in the Forward communities.

The report was prepared by conducting a survey and study of economically backward families of communities other than Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes.The benefit is available to Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, Shudras, Latin Catholics and non-SIUC Christians as well as people belonging to 164 sects with an annual income of less than Rs 4 lakh. The commission made detailed recommendations on the report.

The report will be considered by the Cabinet on Wednesday. The government will submit its report and the action plan on it in the assembly session which will resume on Friday.

The NSS leadership had earlier come out against the commission's approach to identify economically backward families among the forward communities. Commission Chairman and members Adv. M. Manoharan Pillai, A.G. Unnikrishnan have visited CM's chamber and submitted the report.

The Commission said that the report contains balanced, comprehensive and practical recommendations to address the issues of the economically backward communities.
