THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state budget has allocated Rs 5.70 crore for the Kerala State Development Corporation for Christian Converts and the recommended communities (KSDC for CC & RC). The amount has been allotted for various projects launched for those people who have converted to Christianity from scheduled castes and other recommended communities.
The government aims to implement various projects through the corporation such as construction and renovation of houses, providing financial assistance for marriage, medical and engineering entrance coaching etc. The corporation has been founded with the objective to promote the comprehensive social, educational, cultural and economic upliftment and other living conditions of the Christian converts from scheduled caste and the recommended communities. Music director and playback singer Jassie Gift is the chairman of the corporation, headquartered in Kottayam. The CPM state secretariat had nominated Jassie Gift as the corporation chairman. This is the first time a non-politician has been nominated for the post.
Agricultural land acquisition, foreign employment and retail trade are some of the other schemes implemented by the corporation. The main functions of the corporation are to discuss, analyze and collect information about the social, educational and developmental problems faced by the backward classes in the state.
