Ruling party confident of poll victory in five states, oppositions lack unity; second part of parliament’s budget session to begin on Monday

NEW DELHI: The second part of the parliament’s budget session will begin on Monday. The session will be held from 11 am till 6 pm. The ruling party will be attending the session with the confidence of having won a landslide victory in the assembly polls in five states. However, the opposition parties including the Congress, who were unable to stand united against the ruling party, are in a desperate state following the defeat in all five states including Uttar Pradesh.

The Congress working committee meeting held on Sunday, led by Sonia Gandhi, had decided not to allow the defeat’s fatigue to affect the party’s performance in the parliament. In the session, the Congress will raise the issues of the rising unemployment and the reduction in the interest rate of provident funds. The Trinamool-Congress dispute, which occurred following the announcement of election results, coupled with the absence of a united opposition in both the houses, are likely to excite the ruling government.

The major agenda in both houses is the supplementary demands for grants following the budget presentation. The session will be held in 19 sittings and will end on April 8.
