Kerala prepared to vaccinate children between ages of 12 to 14, precautionary dose for 60 years and above from March 16: Minister Veena George

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister Veena George has said that the state is ready for the Covid vaccination of children between the ages of 12 and 14. She said that as soon as the central guidelines are available, a vaccination scheme for children will be formulated accordingly.

It is estimated that there are about 15 lakh children between the ages of 12 and 14 in the state. This is likely to change depending on the projected population of the vaccination centre. There are 10,24,700 doses of Corbevax vaccine available for children in the state- 4,03,200 doses in Ernakulam, 2,74,500 doses in Kozhikode and 3,47,000 doses in Thiruvananthapuram.

The precautionary dose can be taken by anyone above 60 years of age in the state from March 16, 9 months after the second dose. The minister said that at present, the precautionary dose is being given to health workers, Covid frontline warriors and those above 60 years of age with other related ailments.
