CHANDIGARH: Former cricketer Harbhajan Singh will be the Rajya Sabha candidate of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which recently won Punjab Assembly elections. It is learned that Harbhajan was recommended by AAP leader and new Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Mann. During his campaign, Bhagwant Mann had promised to promote sports and build a sports university in Jalandhar.

Sources close to Harbhajan said that he had always been interested in working for the people and for the welfare of sportspersons and would definitely accept the invitation to the Rajya Sabha if given the opportunity as he had a very close relationship with Bhagwant Mann.

Prior to announcing his retirement, Harbhajan Singh visited former cricketer and Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, prompting suspicions that he was joining the Congress. But the actor denied this. If elected, Harbhajan Singh will be another cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar in Parliament
