KOZHIKODE: The police have arrested a ‘saint’ who persuaded a young woman to abandon her minor son. Charuparambil Ravi (52) of Kayanna Mattanodu, known as a divine saint, was arrested under the Juvenile Justice Act, following a missing complaint lodged by the woman’s 13-year-old son. On February 12, the son had lodged a complaint with the Kakkur police stating that his mother was missing.

The police had found the woman while investigating on the son’s complaint and a case was registered against her for abandoning the child. Soon after, the woman was remanded. The investigation into the woman's mobile phone had revealed information about the accused. In a few days, both of them had talked 2858 times over the phone. The police have also received evidence stating that the woman and the accused had stayed together in many places. On the basis of the evidence, the police registered a case against Ravi for persuading the woman to abandon her child.

The accused Ravi was a ‘saint’ who had constructed a temple nearby his house and performed rituals. The police also found that he used to exploit women, including widows and divorcees, who came seeking solutions for their problems. Even after his arrest, numerous people from different parts of the state came looking for him. However, his accomplices informed them that Ravi had gone for a tour.
