Infant deaths continue to take place in Attappady, four-month-old boy dies; four deaths in three months

ATTAPPADY: One more infant death has been reported in Attappady. The deceased has been identified as 4-month-old Sivaprasad, son of Mettuvazhi native Maruthan and Jinsy. The baby, which had a congenital heart defect, died at the Kottathara Tribal Hospital while undergoing treatment. This is the fourth infant death reported in Attappady this year.

With the Attappady region reporting frequent infant deaths, the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes had sent a letter to the Chief Secretary on the complaint filed by former Rajya Sabha member Richard Hay. The Commission sought the details of the steps taken by the state government to prevent infant deaths in Attappady.
