THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The strike staged by the bus owners is unnecessary, said Transport Minister Antony Raju. Bus fare will be hiked even if they go ahead with the strike or not, he said. KSRTC are operating additional services, he said.

Despite transport minister saying that KSRTC is operating additional services, reports said there are no additional services in many districts. There are no employees and buses, the authorities said.

Passengers are stranded in districts where KSRTC is not operating additional services. The indefinite strike of private buses in the state started midnight yesterday. The strike was called by a joint strike committee of various bus owners' organizations to protest the sharp rise in fuel prices and in keeping the ticket price unchanged.
