KOCHI: Former IG A V George has criticized former DGP R Sreelekha’s statement that she had arranged some facilities for actor Dileep, while he was in jail.
All should be treated equally in jail. Dileep will only receive those facilities which are provided for the common man. He was not harassed by the police and dumped there, was he? A man who led a five star life may have to suffer mental and physical problems while in prison.
Special facilities cannot be provided for Dileep alone. There are hundreds of prisoners in the jail. Yet, Dileep was given tender coconut water and mats. Why was such facilities provided for one man alone? Sreelekha should clarify it, A V George demanded.
Sreelekha had herself revealed in a media interview that Dileep was given more facilities while he was in jail in connection with the actress assault case.
‘It was propagated that I had given special facilities for Dileep, while I was the jail DGP. There were huge protests launched against me. However, I had gone to the Aluva sub jail only after the rumours surfaced. What I saw there was heartbreaking.
Dileep was lying on the floor with three or four inmates. He was shivering. He tried to get up but fell down. I doubted if he was the same person we see on the screen. He was in such a bad physical state. I tend to soften up quickly. I grabbed him up and took him to the superintendent's room and gave him a tender coconut. I asked to provide him with two mats and a blanket. A doctor was called to correct the balance of his ear. An arrangement was made to give him nutritious food’, Sreelekha had said in the interview.
