Pleasure trip turns tragic as two students from Kerala drown while taking selfies, one missing

KOTTAYAM: A pleasure trip to Manipal in Karnataka turned tragic as two students of a private engineering college in Ettumanoor, drowned in the sea. One is missing. Initial reports said the incident happened in St Mary’s Island. The students hailing from Pambady, Moolamattom and Udayamperur are those who met with the accident.

The bodies of Amal C Anil of Kuzhimattam Cheppad Parambu in Kottayam and Alan Reji of Pambady Velloor Ellimullu have been recovered. A search is on to find Antony Shinoy of Udayamperur Chiramel of Ernakulam. They were final year computer students. The incident happened at the Malpe Beach in Manipal. The team left for the pleasure trip yesterday. The three were caught in a strong wave while taking selfies.

The three slipped and fell into the sea while taking a selfie. The 42-member team including teachers and students left for the trip on Tuesday evening.
