Court allows aborting 30-week old pregnancy of woman due to health problems of child

court-

KOCHI: The High Court has permitted to abort of a 30-week old pregnancy of a woman from Palakkad due to serious health problems of her unborn child. The woman and her husband had approached the high court seeking permission for an abortion after they noticed bleeding in the baby's skull. By law, abortion is allowed for up to 24 weeks. Justice PV Kunjikrishnan allowed the abortion based on the medical board's report that continuing the pregnancy would affect the health of the mother and that the unborn child would be at risk of developing diseases such as cerebral palsy. The single bench concluded that may God forgive the couple who had to have an abortion and hoped they get a child they wish to have.
