Shehbaz Sharif set to become PM of Pakistan

shehbaz-

ISLAMABAD: Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and the current Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, is all set to become the next Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Shehbaz is likely to win the absolute majority in today's vote in the National Assembly. He was nominated to the PM post by the opposition yesterday. His opponent is Shah Mahmood Qureshi, a 65-year-old former foreign minister from Imran Khan's party, the PTI. Meanwhile, all members of Imran's party have threatened to resign from parliament if the screening committee of the National Assembly approves Shehbaz's nomination. Imran's party claims that Shahbaz is facing trial in a Rs 1,400 crore money laundering case. Today, the House will be presided by Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri, who aided Imran.

The voting on the no-confidence motion on Saturday resulted in Imran Khan-led PTI losing with 174 votes in favour of the no-confidence motion.
