Do not delay preventive detention of goons: CM Vijayan to officials

goons

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has given strict instructions to the police to imprison the goons who are terrorizing the people. District collectors are required to make timely decisions on applications made by the police to impose gun laws. Goons should not get the benefit of delaying the decision. The Chief Minister, in his interactions with the chief secretary and senior police officials, directed the sub-collectors to keep a close watch on the matter.

The Chief Minister also intervened in the 'Kerala Kaumudi' report that the goons were being protected through errors in the application to collectors to impose the goonda law. A nodal officer will be appointed in the office of the district police chief to coordinate the process of updating the goonda list in the stations and collecting the 7-year case history of the criminals without any errors. This officer will also be responsible for liaising with the collector on a regular basis to resolve requests for goonda law. The chief secretary and the chief of police will evaluate the progress of the imposition of goonda laws and hunting down of goons every six months. The chief secretary will call a meeting of the collectors and direct them to expedite the settlement of applications. Collectors have to decide on 140 applications.

Top officials will be tasked with detecting irregularities, including the exclusion of politically influential goons from the goonda list. The cell of the DIGs will be set up to avoid loopholes in the goonda list due to political-mafia pressure. 'Kerala Kaumudi' had pointed out that senior officials were not interfering in preparing goonda list and that some randon policemen are being assigned.

The regular criminals who supply and distribute drugs to the goons will also be included in the goonda list. The Chief Minister interacted with DGP Anil Kant, ADGPs Manoj Abraham, Vijay Sackhere and S Sreejith.
