CBI takes decisive action in PNB fraud case, Nirav Modi’s close aide caught from Egypt

MUMBAI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Subhash Shankar Parab, a close aide of fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi, who fled the country following the Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud. Parab, who was arrested from Egypt’s Cairo, has been brought to Mumbai.

Subhash Shankar had been absconding since the case was registered in 2018. The CBI arrested the accused based on inputs received by the agency. He will be produced before the Mumbai CBI court and will be sought for custodial interrogation.

Nirav Modi, who fled the country after embezzling Rs 14,000 crores from the PNB, has been charged with fraud and money laundering. He is also accused of destroying evidence and threatening witnesses. Modi’s assets worth Rs 326.99 crores, including his flats in London and Gulf countries, were confiscated.
