THRISSUR: Suresh Gopi MP has responded to the controversy over giving money to chief priests as kaineettam for the devotees who visit temples on Vishu. Some crooked minds are behind making this controversial, he said.

‘What I gave the children was kaineettam of one rupee and not any bribe for votes. Every child in every country is supposed to lead it to prosperity. That one rupee was given as a blessing for such children. Those notes do not have the picture of Narendra Modi or Suresh Gopi on it. It has the picture of Gandhi. What can I say to these tadpoles who cannot understand that virtue? They are just a colony of itching tadpoles. Let them come, I dare’, said Suresh Gopi.

The board is of the view that giving kaineettam to temple priests is equal to misusing temples. The board has also released a press release without mentioning Suresh Gopi’s name. The press release only states that the chief priests are barred from receiving money from certain people.

Suresh Gopi has been in the district since last Sunday as part of his programme to offer kaineettam to the people. The actor has also appealed to the chief priest not to exempt children while giving kaineettam from his money. He had given new one rupee notes of Rs 1 lakh, bought from the Reserve Bank, to the temples.
